Abstract: In the past 20 years since the promulgation of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the Criminal Law) in 1997, national legislature has made great achievements in reducing the death penalty, adjusting penalty structure, timely revising and supplementing punishment provisions and continuously improving legislative technique of Criminal Law through ten amendments to Criminal Law. In the past two decades, the amendments to Criminal Law have reflected the distinctive characteristics of the time and the main features focusing on legislative innovation. Its main legislative experience is adhering to the correct legislative direction, adhering to the orientation that proceeds from national conditions, and adhering to and developing the principle of compression and modesty of Criminal Law.
